Spring has the cellar doors booking ahead. One milestone birthday, a long-weekend festival and a Father's Day lunch this week.

Pankhurst Wines celebrates 40 years, 27 September

Pankhurst Wines at Wallaroo is marking 40 years since the vineyard was planted. The first vines went in as Pinot Noir in 1986, followed by Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot on the family's modern trellising system, with newer varieties added over the years as tastes shifted. On Sunday 27 September the cellar door hosts live music and food, plus a special tasting of some of their past vintages. Before then, Father's Day visitors this weekend can try the truffle cheese platters and a sip of the museum vintages. Bookings on 0418 667 433, and details on the Pankhurst Wines events page.

Moving Feast at Four Winds Vineyard, 3 and 4 October

Four Winds Vineyard at Murrumbateman is part of the Moving Feast program run by Makers of Murrumbateman over the October long weekend. The vineyard is open 11am to 5pm on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October with wood-fired pizza, live music and frosé. Further ahead, the events calendar lists a Tastes in Tandem evening with Yazzbar on Wednesday 11 November, Friday Nights at Four Winds on 4, 11 and 18 December, and Carols by Barrels on 11 December. The cellar door is serving wood-fired pizza seven days a week through spring. Bookings and the full list on the Four Winds events page.

Father's Day long lunch at Lake George Winery, this Sunday

Lake George Winery at Collector is hosting a Father's Day long lunch on Sunday 6 September, 10am to 4pm, with a set menu, their wines and views across the lake from The Vineyards Road. Menu and bookings on the Lake George Winery what's on page.

Better in person

Almost every winery here is a short drive from the city, most are open on weekends, and all are small enough that the person pouring often made the wine. When you are ready for a day out, the trip planner will map you a route across the region, cellar door to cellar door.
